Why MinutesIQ doesn't attribute speaking turns to members

Understanding the principle of collegiality and how it applies to your minutes.

MinutesIQ follows the principle of collegiality, a governance standard where board deliberations are presented as the result of collective discussion, without attributing individual speaking turns to specific members. This principle protects the confidentiality of exchanges and supports board unity.

This doesn't mean everything is anonymous: if the mover and seconder of a resolution are identified, they are recorded. Dissenting votes are as well.

What MinutesIQ records by default

  • The mover and seconder of each resolution, if identified
  • Dissenting votes
  • Adopted decisions and their outcome

What MinutesIQ does not record by default: who said what during deliberations.

Turning off collegiality

If your organization prefers that speaking turns be attributed to members, you can indicate this in the context field.

Keep in mind that this practice departs from standard governance norms. If you're unsure, your bylaws or corporate secretary are good resources.
